DGBS One Year Anniversary!

It was one year ago, October 8th 2010, when I was sitting around my apartment, disappointed about the fact that there was nothing to watch on TV that night.

I started to flip around the Shoutcast channels, and I still couldn't find anything to watch. It was either stuff I had seen a thousand times, or stuff that I had no interest in watching. I thought "I wish I could have my own station so I could put on whatever I want!" Suddenly I thought - "What's stopping me???"

AND DGBS WAS BORN!!!

The first couple of weeks was really nothing - an endless loop of Daft Punk's "Around The World", a test video I was using to encode content and test various configurations. It played with sound only for a couple of weeks while I tried to work some stuff out. But eventually, I got it working, and I began to work on full movies.

The first movie to play in its entirety, on October 27th, was George A Romero's "Night Of The Living Dead", and a couple days after that I had a full playlist up, and the rest is history. And I've made some changes along the way - added a few TV shows and cartoons, added a Weekend-Only version of my schedule, put on some special features, including some rare movies you won't see anywhere else.

But my ultimate goal has remained the same - To create a station full of stuff I like, and stuff I'd want to watch. Imagine my surprise when I found out that there were others who liked it too!!!

I want to thank all of you for watching over the last year or so, and I'd also like to thank you all for your support and kind emails. Your support keeps me going, and keeps me motivated to find new stuff to share with you all.

As always, feel free to drop me an email at doughyguy@gmail.com, or just leave any comments or suggestions here on the blog. Thanks again for making DGBS a success!

Now, on to this weekend's playlist... This one is all for me. It's an entire weekend full of some of my favorite things I've ever shown on DGBS. However, there's a distinct shortage of horror films (including Night Of The Living Dead), and there's a reason for that - I'm saving most of those for later on in the month for an ENTIRE WEEK of Halloween films!

Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DGBS!

(& many happy returns!)

thanks for a year of great/cool/fun/wierd programming

:)

btw, just a minor point, but "clown house" is set around aprox. october 15-17 (according to the dates on the circus poster @ the start of the film, assuming my memory is correct; 3 days in the teens of october anyway). so if you were interested in "aligning" in-movie dates with real-world ones, it might make a good lead-in to the hallow-e'en season.

muchly appreciate your efforts in any case; dgbs is one of my "top 2" .nvs channels.

(the other one is "spectra television"; i use them to practice/brush-up on my german)

cheers & looking forward to year 2!
