hey; good lineup!

i rly enjoyed seeing 'the black hole" again; has to have been at least 10 yrs...

do you know the film "battle beyond the stars"?

it was roger corman's "star wars"; based loosely on "the 7 samurai" & the derived western

...it turned out better than it sounds

was notable for being a very young james cameron's first pro film-making gig (fx & at least some of the art/design)

Yeah "Black Hole" was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and one that not many people know about, let alone know it was a Disney movie...

As far as BBTS, yes I've seen that movie many times. John-Boy Walton, Sybil Danning, Robert Vaughn, George Peppard... Pure, unadulterated cheese.

In fact, I used to have a copy on VHS. I'll have to go through some boxes and see if I can't dig it out...

Some trivia...hope my data is correct....

The Black Hole was Disney's first ever PG movie.

In Battle Beyond the Stars Robert Vaughn did a sort of remake of his Magnificent Seven gunslinger character.

Good shows....keep 'em coming!

less "body" shots, i think a bit less violence & possibly some cuts in the space stuff too.

the ending was definitely different; no "hell" & no more mad captain & maximillian after the cygnus went into the black hole...

& i seem to recall the happy ending for the palomino survivors involved their becoming some kind of transcendent mental "entities"?

(what makes for an interesting comparison is "alien" (1) against "the black hole"; very different films, but so simillar in some ways)

loved tbbts too, but as much an i enjoyed it, i have to wonder what would have happened if corman had just handed the whole project to cameron, & "let him cut loose".

couldn't have been "avatar", but it might have been epic

It was the first 'official' Disney PG film. They tried some 'darker' fare around the late 70's/early 80's, and it failed, mainly because people still equated Disney with wholesome fun family stuff. Black Hole was one of the films that eventually led Disney to split off their more 'mature' films into a separate film company, Touchstone Picures.

According to Wikipedia, that was a Disney Channel "cut" of the film. Both cuts have the happy ending you mentioned, but the family-friendly cut has certain violent scenes (and language) cut out.

(re: Day Of The Dead)
Heh... My fault. That actually means it was on the playlist *three* times, because I noticed it was on there twice while I was creating the playlist. I obviously didn't notice the third time. But what can I say - I love that movie!

All the early George Romero stuff is tops....just wished he would get his mojo back after 'Survival of the Dead'.

As for The Black Hole, I remember seeing it on its premiere nite in Philly waaaay back then, and actually hearing moms gasp at some of the language whilst the kiddies were eating the movie like it was candy.
